Nexon, the developer of classic online games such as MapleStory and KartRider, announced on the 20th that it will invest up to $100 million in funding for its classic MMORPG MapleStory’s Web3 game, “MapleStory Universe.”
This significant investment aims to enhance the game economy and player experience, as well as expand MapleStory Universe, including blockchain-based MMORPGs, mobile versions of the game, and software development kits (SDKs), making MapleStory a leader in the Web3 gaming realm.
MapleStory Universe receives $100 million investment.
Since its launch in 2003, MapleStory has become a global sensation and one of Nexon’s flagship IPs, generating over $4 billion in revenue and attracting over 260 million players worldwide.
In March of this year, Nexon announced the development of the new Web3 game, “MapleStory Universe,” and partnered with Polygon to launch an independent subnet for MapleStory Universe by integrating Polygon Supernets, a large-scale application chain, allowing game developers to customize and expand the blockchain space.
As part of the MapleStory Universe ecosystem, MapleStory N is a large-scale multiplayer online game (MMORPG) that integrates blockchain technology. MapleStory N Mobile expands the blockchain experience to mobile devices. MapleStory N Worlds allows players and creators to make their own blockchain games on a sandbox platform. MapleStory N SDK is a toolkit to help developers create decentralized applications.
Although specific details about token issuance and service launch have not been disclosed, Nexon plans to release a comprehensive roadmap in the first half of 2024.
