AI chatbot ChatGPT has become popular worldwide this year. As the year comes to an end, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced OpenAI’s plans for next year on the 24th, including the intention to release GPT-5. However, he stated that the advent of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is still not possible next year.
During the Christmas holiday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tweeted on the 24th, asking netizens for suggestions on new features or improvements they would like to see from OpenAI next year. This received a significant response from netizens. Subsequently, he further announced some of the most requested features, including:
– AGI: Please be a little patient
– GPT-5
– Improved performance in voice mode
– Higher rate limits
– More powerful GPT performance
– Improved reasoning abilities
– Control over awareness/behavior levels
– Video functionality
– Personalization settings
– Enhanced browsing experience
– Login with OpenAI accounts
– Open-sourcing
AGI refers to AI that possesses human-level intelligence or surpasses human capabilities, demonstrating outstanding performance in various fields and tasks. However, it is still in the early stages of research. Sam Altman mentioned that although many people hope to achieve AGI by 2024, they may be disappointed as OpenAI cannot achieve this goal by that time.
Earlier this month, Sam Altman stated that he believes AGI will be the most powerful technology ever invented by humans. Additionally, according to foreign media reports in early December, the highly anticipated custom GPT store by the community has been postponed to early 2024 by OpenAI.
Is GPT-5 expected to be released next year? Previously, there were rumors that GPT-4.5 would be unveiled by the end of December. Recently, a Reddit user leaked that GPT-4.5 seems to have quietly gone online, claiming to be the “most advanced model” by OpenAI, with enhanced multimodal capabilities to optimize language, audio, visual, 3D, and video data processing.
However, OpenAI researcher Will DePue debunked the news about GPT-4.5 in a tweet. When asked on the X platform if the leak of GPT-4.5 was true or false, Sam Altman unofficially denied it with a “nah” response, sparking endless speculation.
Sam Altman previously revealed last month that they are developing the next-generation model, GPT-5, but he did not commit to a release date. He only mentioned that this new model will require more data for training, including publicly available data from the internet and proprietary data provided by companies.
