Since the launch of the AI chatbot ChatGPT in November last year, there has been a sharp increase in interest in AI among people. According to Google search trend data, the global search interest in AI has far surpassed keywords such as Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, with China showing the highest search interest in AI.
Google search trend data shows that since 2020, the search interest in Bitcoin has surpassed AI at times, and the search interest in cryptocurrencies has also occasionally exceeded AI. However, this trend has reversed since August 2022. Since the introduction of ChatGPT in November last year, the gap between the search interest in AI and Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies has been widening.
According to Google’s keyword search volume ranking system, which scores keywords from 0 to 100 based on their popularity, the current global search interest score for AI is 91, while Bitcoin only scores 22.
This result may not be surprising, as Bitcoin has been in a bear market in the second half of 2021 and throughout 2022. At the beginning of this year, the price of Bitcoin was only $16,900, but it has since rebounded and has risen by about 150% to nearly $44,000.
Data shows that in the past year, El Salvador, Nigeria, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Switzerland have shown the highest search interest in Bitcoin, with scores of 100, 82, 47, 46, and 43, respectively. As for Taiwan, the search interest score for Bitcoin is only 2.
In addition, in the past year, China, Vietnam, Romania, the Philippines, and Myanmar have shown the highest search interest in AI, with scores of 100, 99, 68, 67, and 64, respectively. As for Taiwan, the search interest score for AI is 32.
Earlier this year, CoinGecko released an analysis report stating that AI has become the most searched job in job searches. From 2020 to 2022, the search volume for “AI jobs” and “cryptocurrency jobs” was relatively close, with AI having the advantage most of the time. However, after Bitcoin reached a record high of $69,000 in November 2021, the search interest in cryptocurrencies surpassed AI.
With the widespread application of Web3 and cryptocurrency technology and the increasing interest among people, cryptocurrency jobs attracted a large number of job seekers’ queries in 2022. However, since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the search volume for “AI jobs” has started to skyrocket.
According to CoinGecko’s research, the search volume for “AI jobs” in 2023 reached its peak, which was almost five times higher than the peak for “cryptocurrency jobs.” At the time of the report, the search volume for “AI jobs” was still four times higher. Singapore ranks at the top in terms of search interest for both “AI jobs” and “cryptocurrency jobs” among all countries.
