Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin today released a lengthy article stating that Ethereum needs to return to its original vision of decentralization, open participation, resistance to censorship, and trusted neutrality, and he specifically criticized Justin Sun as “the coolest, most decentralized.”
With the end of 2023 approaching, Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin seems to have a special sentiment and has recently been posting in the community. Today (29), V God once again released a lengthy article, stating that Ethereum needs to reignite the early “crypto punk” ideals, “Make Ethereum cypherpunk again!”
To achieve Ethereum’s original vision, V God mentioned several specific ideas and strategies in the article. He pointed out that Ethereum was initially envisioned as a “public decentralized shared hard drive” that could utilize peer-to-peer communication and decentralized file storage. However, this vision has faded since Ethereum’s shift towards financialization in 2017.
V God believes that future Ethereum should return to values such as decentralization, open participation, resistance to censorship, and trusted neutrality. He hopes for the vibrant development of non-financial applications on the blockchain and emphasizes the potential of technologies such as Rollups, zero-knowledge proofs, account abstraction, and Layer2 privacy solutions in achieving these values.
At the same time, he also emphasized that there may be teams in the crypto ecosystem building projects that do not adhere to these values, such as establishing highly centralized networks or storing NFTs on centralized websites instead of decentralized file storage platforms like IPFS.
It is worth mentioning that in the article, V God pointed out that in many countries, people do use cryptocurrencies for remittances and savings, but this is usually done in a centralized manner, including internal transfers through centralized exchange accounts or trading USDT on the Tron network. This practice contradicts the original intention of decentralized cryptocurrencies. Ironically, he posted a photo with Tron founder Justin Sun, with the caption:

In fact, V God also questioned Justin Sun in the community in early December this year. The situation was as follows: CoinDesk, a blockchain media, hosted a sponsored interview program by Tron on the 6th and invited Justin Sun to discuss “responsibility and best practices.”
V God responded in the comments under the tweet, “Are you sure you want to do business with Justin Sun?” V God believes that the industry should learn from the SBF incident and be more cautious to avoid assisting wealthy individuals in legitimizing their wealth. He implied that giving prominent figures in these activities a platform may encourage such practices.
