Strike, a lightning network platform, has announced the launch of its “debit card” feature, which allows users worldwide to purchase Bitcoin. This feature is now available in 36 regions, including Taiwan, and non-U.S. users will be charged a fee of 3.9% when purchasing Bitcoin.
Strike, a Bitcoin lightning network payment service provider, completed a Series B funding round of $80 million in mid-2020. The company aims to revolutionize payment methods for global businesses, consumers, and financial institutions, and expand its partnerships.
After more than a year, Strike has officially announced the launch of the “debit card” feature in its app, allowing global users to purchase Bitcoin. The service is now available in 36 countries/regions outside the U.S., including Taiwan, and is expected to be rolled out in over 65 countries/regions that support Strike.
However, non-U.S. users who use this service will be charged a fee of 3.9% when purchasing Bitcoin. The official statement regarding this fee is as follows:
Alongside this, global Strike users can now use the Send Globally channel, which allows customers in supported countries to convert fiat currency, USDT, or Bitcoin into local currency.
Furthermore, Strike has partnered with crypto payment company Bitrefill, enabling users to purchase everyday essentials through the lightning network.
Strike is a Bitcoin lightning network payment platform, with its most notable customer being El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. In addition to serving enterprises such as Coinbase, Paypal, and Square, Strike is also the API developer behind Twitter’s tipping feature.
Strike previously launched the “Pay me in Bitcoin” service in the U.S., allowing users to automatically convert all or part of their salaries into Bitcoin without any fees. Founder Jack Mallers stated that this would help users combat inflation and achieve financial freedom.
