Yesterday evening (18), decentralized exchange (DEX) Trader Joe posted a tweet on social platform X (formerly Twitter), announcing the upcoming pre-sale of its blockchain phone, JONE.
The official post immediately sparked a lot of discussion in the community: “Can’t wait!” “Are you serious? You’ll lose money.” “Can I buy it with AVAX?” However, since Trader Joe has not yet released detailed information about JONE, such as price, specifications, release date, etc., the community also discussed whether this was just a trend or if there was indeed such a plan.
Amidst the polarized opinions in the community, Trader Joe officially released a statement at around 23:30 last night, confirming that it was indeed a joke, but did not rule out the possibility of launching a phone in the future.
Solana Saga second-generation phone available for pre-order
The reason Trader Joe posted this tweet is clearly to replicate the success of Solana’s first blockchain phone, Saga. After all, many users bought Saga not primarily because of the phone’s hardware, but to chase after airdrop rewards.
It is understood that the additional income from the Saga phone mainly consists of three parts:
1. Airdrop rewards: Holding Saga allows users to receive airdrops from multiple projects and have exclusive NFT minting qualifications, including Call of Saga, Access Protocol (ACS), Samoyedcoin (SAMO), and Solend (SLND) specifically.
2. Mining rewards: Mining rewards refer to the Saga phone owners being able to mine the decentralized wireless communication network Helium Mobile (MOBILE) and the decentralized storage network ShdwDrive (SHDW).
3. Resale: It is known that in December last year, Solana announced that Saga was sold out in North America and only had limited inventory in Europe. Even on e-commerce websites like eBay, it was discovered that Saga’s resale price in the second-hand market once exceeded $2,000.

Solana is currently capitalizing on its success and announced this week that Saga’s second-generation phone is available for pre-order. If other projects want to launch blockchain phones in the near future, it is highly likely that they will follow the development path of Saga, using airdrops, mining, and other rewards to attract users. Whether there will be other innovations worth our continued observation remains to be seen.
