With only five days left until Ethereum’s “Dencun upgrade,” David Silverman, the Vice President of Product at Polygon Labs, stated that the integration of various Layer2 solutions will not depend on the Dencun upgrade alone. The upgrade includes multiple improvement proposals called EIPs and is expected to reduce the cost of storing data on the blockchain for Layer2 solutions.
Despite the imminent mainnet launch, David Silverman mentioned that the implementation of these improvement proposals will take a few weeks through integration protocols. He further explained that after the mainnet upgrade, major Layer2 solutions, such as Optimism, will follow suit. For example, OP Stack is expected to upgrade and expand its advantages to the Optimism Superchain ecosystem. Therefore, Base, Mode, Zora, Aevo, and Fraxtal will all be part of that ecosystem. Base’s official statement supported this.
On the other hand, Polygon zkEVM plans to support EIP-4844 in its upcoming Feijoa upgrade. Following the Elderberry upgrade last month, the Feijoa upgrade is expected to go live on the testnet in April. According to the Polygon zkEVM standard 10-day “Timelock” mechanism, the Polygon EIP-4844 is expected to go live on the Polygon mainnet around May 1.
Furthermore, Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova are also planning to upgrade to ArbOS 20 “Atlas” version, and this proposal has been approved by ArbitrumDAO. To ensure stable network operation, all node operators need to upgrade their Nitro nodes to version 2.3.1 or a newer version by March 14, 2024.
Moreover, the Dencun upgrade has already been launched on Arbitrum Sepolia on February 29, 2024, and these upgrades will significantly enhance the performance and functionality of the Arbitrum chain.
Influenced by the news of the “Dencun upgrade,” major Layer2 solutions have experienced impressive price increases within seven days. Polygon has risen by 14.6%, Optimism by 22.7%, and Arbitrum by 10.1%.
