British judge James Mellor ruled yesterday (14th) that Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist who has long claimed to be the anonymous founder of Bitcoin known as Satoshi Nakamoto and is jokingly referred to as “Fake Satoshi” by the community, is not the real Satoshi Nakamoto and is also not the author of the Bitcoin white paper.

The Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA) filed a lawsuit last month against Craig Wright, who has long claimed to be the anonymous founder of Bitcoin known as Satoshi Nakamoto and is jokingly referred to as “Fake Satoshi” by the community, in order to prevent him from taking legal action against developers and members of the crypto community or obtaining intellectual property rights to Bitcoin’s open-source technology.
British Judge: Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto
Just yesterday (14th), British Judge James Mellor ruled in the closing statement of COPA’s lawsuit against Craig Wright that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto and is not the author of the Bitcoin white paper. Key evidence against Craig Wright was provided by Bitcoin Core developer Adam Back and early Bitcoin contributor Martti Malmi, who both objected to Craig Wright’s testimony in court and stated that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
Regarding this victory, COPA stated:
At the same time, Twitter (now X) founder Jack Dorsey also retweeted the judge’s closing statement on social media, expressing support for it.
Fake Satoshi has lost multiple lawsuits
In fact, Craig Wright has suffered repeated defeats in recent years due to his inability to provide private key proof and multiple instances of perjury being exposed. He even expressed his “exhaustion” in December 2022, stating on Twitter that he has given up trying to convince others that he is the “creator of Bitcoin”.
For example, in February last year, Fake Satoshi suffered a defeat in the High Court of England, and according to the court’s judgment, the judge ruled that the file format of Bitcoin (including the header sequence of metadata and the transaction list) “cannot be considered as a literary work” because Wright failed to demonstrate how the file format of Bitcoin was initially recorded in writing or in any other way, which is known as the “fixation” test in copyright law in Europe and the United States.
At that time, Fake Satoshi argued that he wrote the Bitcoin white paper in 2008 under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, and he should have the right to prevent the operation of blockchains that have been hard-forked from the original Bitcoin, including the BTC and BCH (Bitcoin Cash) blockchains, because these Bitcoin forks infringe on his intellectual property rights. He also filed claims against many defendants related to Bitcoin, including Coinbase exchange and 26 other entities.
